Using sources in legal and Sharia research
- Define the research question: identify the issue and relevant legal terms before consulting the appropriate official source.
- Read in context: consult the complete text and its publication and effective dates. For a judgment, record the court level, facts, claims, reasoning and operative ruling where published.
- Identify the source type: distinguish legislation, court judgments, Islamic jurisprudence and analytical opinion. The list below contains legislative sources; Sharia analysis also requires the original jurisprudential reference relevant to the issue.
- Compare and respond: present opposing views, their supporting evidence and your response, with a source link, pinpoint reference and access date.
The library currently begins with a study of share buybacks and arbitral res judicata, connecting legal analysis to official legislative sources.
